1 Introduction

Mello is a family wellness app made by Soleo Technologies, based in Austin, Texas, United States. Mello gives parents and children gentle daily rituals — mood check-ins, breathing exercises, gratitude notes, bedtime wind-downs, and small bonding activities — designed to help families feel a little calmer and a little closer.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Mello mobile apps (iOS and Android) and the website at mellocalm.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who uses Mello, and it takes a deliberately protective approach to children's information because children use this app.

This policy is effective July 13, 2026. By creating an account or using Mello, you acknowledge you have read and understood it.

2 Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run Mello. Here is everything, by category:

Usage analyticsIn-app events, screen views, and session behavior — including session recordings captured by Microsoft Clarity (see Section 12).
Subscription dataPurchase status, trial status, and renewal state, provided through RevenueCat.

Written to protect children

3 Children's privacy (COPPA)

Mello is built for families, and children use it. We treat children's information with extra care and comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and, for children in the EEA and UK, Article 8 of the GDPR.

  • Adults own the account. Every Mello account is created and controlled exclusively by a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18 years old.
  • Consent comes first. A parent or guardian must provide verifiable consent before a child uses the app or a child profile is created.
  • Data minimization. We collect the minimum information necessary from children — a first name or nickname, an age or age range, and the wellness content they choose to enter — and nothing more.
  • Never for ads, never sold. Children's data is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared with third parties for marketing.
  • Parents stay in control. A parent or guardian may review, export, or permanently delete their child's data at any time, and may refuse any further collection of their child's data, by emailing laura@mellocalm.com.
  • If we ever collect without consent by mistake. We do not knowingly collect data from a child without verified parental consent. If we learn that we have, we delete it promptly.

If you believe a child has provided us information without a parent's consent, contact us at laura@mellocalm.com and we will delete it.

4 How we use information

We use the information above to:

  • Provide and operate Mello — your account, family profiles, and the rituals and content you use;
  • Save and sync your family's content across devices;
  • Improve the app — understanding which features help so we can make Mello better;
  • Send transactional and service emails (for example, sign-in help, account or subscription notices, and important policy updates);
  • Support subscriptions — reflecting your purchase, trial, and renewal status;
  • Debug, prevent fraud, and keep the service secure.

We do not use your information — or your child's — for advertising. We do not build advertising or behavioral profiles. We do not sell personal information.

5 How we share information

We share information only with the service providers that help us run Mello, and only as needed for them to perform their function:

  • Supabase — cloud database and hosting, where your account and your family's content are stored;
  • Microsoft Clarity — product-behavior analytics and session recording (see Section 12);
  • RevenueCat — subscription management;
  • Apple App Store and Google Play — app distribution and payment processing.

We may also disclose information if required by law — for example, in response to a valid subpoena or court order — or in connection with a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition, in which case we will give notice before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

We do not sell personal information, and we never sell children's data.

6 Data retention

We keep your account information and your family's content for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (or ask us to delete it), we permanently delete your account data and user content from our systems within 30 days, except where we are legally required to keep certain records longer. Backup copies are purged on a rolling schedule shortly after. Aggregated or de-identified data that cannot reasonably be linked back to you may be retained.

7 Your rights & parental rights

Whoever you are and wherever you live, you can:

  • Access the information we hold about you and your family;
  • Correct information that is wrong or out of date;
  • Delete your account and your family's content, including your child's;
  • Export a copy of your content;
  • Opt out of analytics, including Microsoft Clarity, by declining cookies on the website and by contacting us for the app.

To exercise any of these, email laura@mellocalm.com. We respond within 30 days (and sooner where the law requires). We will not charge you or reduce your service for exercising these rights.

8 GDPR (EEA & UK users)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the data controller is Soleo Technologies, Austin, Texas, United States. Our legal bases for processing are:

  • Contract — to provide the account, profiles, and features you sign up for;
  • Legitimate interests — to secure, debug, and improve the service, balanced against your rights;
  • Consent — for analytics and session recording (Microsoft Clarity), which you may withdraw at any time;
  • Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information by law.

For children in the EEA/UK, processing relies on the consent of the holder of parental responsibility, consistent with GDPR Article 8. You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Contact laura@mellocalm.com to exercise your rights.

9 CCPA/CPRA (California residents)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect and how we use and share it;
  • Delete personal information we hold about you;
  • Correct inaccurate personal information;
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — although Soleo Technologies does not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of;
  • Limit the use of sensitive personal information;
  • Non-discrimination — we will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.

You may submit a request yourself or through an authorized agent by emailing laura@mellocalm.com; we will verify the request (and the agent's authority) before acting on it.

10 International data transfers

Mello is operated from the United States, and information is stored and processed in the United States. If you use Mello from the EEA, UK, or elsewhere, your information will be transferred to the United States. Where required, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum) with our processors as the transfer mechanism, along with appropriate safeguards.

11 Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and limiting who can see your family's content. That said, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we ever experience a breach affecting your information, we will notify you as required by law.

12 Cookies & similar technologies

On the website, we use two kinds of technologies:

  • Essential/functional — needed to sign you in and keep you signed in. These are exempt from consent and always active.
  • Analytics — Microsoft Clarity — helps us understand how Mello's website is used, including anonymized session recordings and heatmaps. Clarity only loads if you accept cookies in our banner. If you decline, Clarity is never initialized and no session recording occurs. You can change your choice anytime using the "Cookies" link in the footer.

Within the mobile app, analytics events help us improve features. You can opt out of app analytics by contacting laura@mellocalm.com. We do not use analytics or session recording to build advertising profiles, and we do not run session recording to capture children's personal content for marketing.

13 Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Mello evolves. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top. For material changes, we will give direct notice — by email or an in-app or on-site notice — before the change takes effect. Continued use of Mello after an update means you accept the revised policy.
